Thoughts of Wonder
As the passing years impose themselves upon us,
memories keep us young of spirit and heart.
And yet, time forces us to move on,
past the boundaries of memory;
and confront reality, in its starkness.
Time never speeds up nor slows down,
it remains a constant.
And weaving itself into all our actions or inactions;
Time grinds us down, with equal determination;
leaving only fragmented shadows of what used to be.
The power of faith and the miracle of birth,
remind us that we are mortal, by design.
Only Death can release a soul created to ascend.
We're born enthusiastic; like splendiferous shooting stars,
fueled by promises and possibilities.
And yet, we eventually fizzle out, to an undramatic finish;
oblivious to the trail of sparks we left in our wake.
And we strut off of life's stage, with but one desire;
that we continue to entertain thoughts of wonder; for eternity.
