Thoughts Near the End
thoughts near the end
lived a long life
not as long as some
it will do, perhaps
a question, what is left in the end?
learned a thing or two
about love and kindness
meanness of spirit and greed
bravery and honour
expectations, a huge mistake especially of others
each piece of knowledge accrued
were as berries, colourful as jewels
some sweet, some tangy
and some bitter
like the tastes of life
every nuance of flavour
simultaneously individual yet
intricately melded
I have dipped my cup of spirit, intellect
deeply into this brew, drunk all with great relish
holding it closely as wisdom hard won
priceless memories cherished onward.
