Thou Art My Breath and Death

Thou art my breath and death
my sea and shore
...my planet and my sun

Thou art earthquake and volcanic make

Thou art my soul to bed
and my soul to rise
and my soul-streaming with light across the darkened sky

Thou art my hurricane and my drought
my walking in and my going out

Thou art my quietest whispers and my loudest roars
my shaken sugar and my salt stores

Thou art my morning light and my restful night
my secret and my friend

Thou art my ultimate undoing
and my doing it again

Thou art my deepest injury and my tender-est of mend
and I pray that though art shall be
until the un-bitter end
