Those Were the Mornings
You woke me early in the morning,
big sis' got up too,
midsummer sun was already out,
we ran excitedly -
you were routinely jogging -
I ran excitedly,
we ran out into the early sun.
You woke me early in the morning,
we watched Marvelous prevailing
over Hands Of Stone,
he was so Marvelous
and I so loved him,
we both had our favourites,
the undercard was all right too.
You woke me early in the morning
and I set about my books,
I tried to at any rate,
I tried to cram into my head
as many answers as would go,
and you made carrots sound like carrots
and tomatoes sound like carrots.
I woke you early in the morning,
I made good enough coffee
for your whimsical tastes,
always kept me guessing, you did,
sometimes it made me laugh,
and I still thought you'd live forever,
I thought that I might too.
And I never imagined a mourning.
