This Way Is

Although alongside of this lonely way has no flower or tree,
since there is no flower, you won’t see a fluttering butterfly,
since there is no tree, you won’t find a singing bird.
This lonely way is a gravel road
extended to the end of the world
by a stream without flowing water.

This lonely way no one can come with you
that’s why, even if it’s a playact,
I wished someone would hold me to stop going,
but, alas, no one did.
It’s a desolated way that is laid only for you to walk alone,
it’s a sorrowful way laid between alive and dead,
it’s a dark dismal way that departed one cannot come back.

Now I think I understand the reason the moon wanes
now I think I can comprehend why the stars do not whisper.
No matter how the world is changed
how all creations are well and breathing
if a moment extended to eternal or finite becomes infinite,
this nightfall the darkening way is
the way I don’t want to look back again,
this hateful way is
the way I don’t want to walk on again.
