This Time, I Am Not Letting Her Go

'do you want me?' she'll say
and the answer will already be on the tip of my tongue, ready to shoot itself out and make itself known
'always' i'll say
and it hardly counts as an answer
it doesn't count, not when it's hushed
not when it's a whisper that seems like it shouldn't have been said
but the thing is -
it was
it was meant in every sense of the word
it was meant to be heard and it was meant to make her heart beat faster, and hell, it was meant to have her pull me closer
close enough to hear her heartbeat
loud and insistent
'always?' she'll ask again, and i know her voice is shaky because so many people have said the same thing and left
'always' i'll repeat
because this time,
she'll believe it

You have used a gentleness that lulls the reader into a sweet feeling level, and in such a subtle and apt way, my friend. nicely built, and received warmly.
