This One's For Donovan

the underdog becomes the wolf
in a shocking turn of events
yet not of his own volition

'you are finally a man' they say
but he does not agree
he is a boy, plucked from a childhood
and thrust into survival

but here
they call it adulthood
they call it becoming a man
and he doesn't understand

he's clawed his way through ruins
with his own two hands

his own bloody knuckles
and razor sharp teeth

he's drilled holes in skulls
that carried weapons in the form of actions

he has learned from an early age
that some boys cannot become a man
unless they kill a few

Your poetry has such a truthful theme, always, Michele. It is glorious.
