Notes About The Poem

This Moment

I find myself in this moment, reflecting on many instances -
ones that brought great joy or pain, some that brought change
or love or death, extraordinary moments of memorable things,
and a million moments in-between of varied levels of import ...

The thing that ties them all together, the common thread that weaves
the tapestry of life - that ties this blessing of breaths and heartbeats
into a bow - is that each moment, each precious period of time's
steady passing, is given to us to make of as we see fit ...

To take into our spirit's hands with care and intent, as a raw, soft clay
for our molding ... to think deliberately on its design and purpose,
allowing for space, order, simplicity, and contemplation, and focus not
on the destination, but accept as a rare and precious gift.

We ALL have the power within us to shape that clay to our choosing ...
to form blessing or a bane, to create something to recall and cherish,
or something to cast onto the breath of indifference and apathy ...
to receive with joy and reward, or let drive us into defeat.

No one moment is any more or less extraordinary than another,
except in regard to how we shape it, or how we let it shape US ...
for learning to appreciate ALL the moments in this journey,
is learning to be truly happy ... truly ... at peace.

So much wisdom offered within this amazing poem, Greg. "To take into our spirit's hands with care and intent, as a raw, soft clay for our molding...We ALL have the power within us to shape that clay to our choosing ..." How very true, and therein lies our free will, unlike any other other creature on earth, our Zen is finding the balance and peace. Congratulations on your podium win! Sandra <3 :)

Oh, this is such a wonderful comment, Sandra, and I greatly appreciate your kind and thoughtful words ... everything in this Universe is about balance, and I personally believe there is no such thing as chaos, only what we know and what we've yet to discover, (and that goes for our inner "universe" as well). Many thanks and good wishes to you, Dear Poet! :-) <3

Me, too, Connie - it's an ongoing, never-ending process, I think, and like most in life, not something we'll ever perfect. Blessings and thanks, my good friend! :-) <3

Thank you so much for entering your poem in my contest, Gregory. Congrats on your win. How lucky am I to suffer from some form of memory blackouts when I read poems as if for the first time when I apply the filter of a contest!

I am sorry to say I am not there yet. There are a few moments I want, need, to forget. I think you are above the norm if you are able to achieve this Greg and kudos to you. I have special moments that instantly come to mind that outshine all others. Your lines: "Every one is a gift for our bounty and being - A raw, soft clay for our molding." rings most true for me. Excellent! Congratulations on your win! : )

Thank you so much, Connie - I think it's an ongoing process for me, and I would have to say I have not perfected it as yet. But I am learning that even the most horrible things in my past held SOMEthing, (or led to something), positive, and USUALLY something that far outweighed whatever negativity it was. As I say, an ongoing process, but it has helped me deal and understand the importance - and even necessity - for those things I'd rather do without. Blessings, Dear Friend! :-) <3

This poem is a terrific reminder not to squander any moment, they are each precious and special, and they are gone so quickly!
