this might be the year

Two toad brothers racing to the swamp
On the backs of their favorite snails
Get outrun by all of the other toads

Let them win, Lee tells his brother
I would rather ride, even if we are the slowest
Maybe those who are last will get a prize said his brother.

Redundant conversation they have every annual race
Optimistically thinking “this might be the year”
