Notes About The Poem

This Isn't Living

I see you sitting there
Night after night
Living someone else's passions
Worried about some stranger's future
Borrowing some guy's dreams
Involved in another couple's romance
As if you were so empty inside
That you couldn't live your own life

I see you glued there
Your eyes look like mirrors to the almighty screen
And I can't help but wonder
What happened to the dreams you had to once have
How your life would be if you finally decided to live it

But I still see you there half-sleeping
And I wonder what I've been doing here
How I ever got here
Where my suitcases are
What I'll take with me
What I'll tell you as I leave
How you'll take the news
Oh- you'll be crushed for sure
For a while, maybe for a long while
And you'll have just one more excuse to escape
one more reason not to live your life
So sad

Congrats on the selection of this, your first poem, as a winner in the contest... It's really 'Vintage Line," methinks. Soar and Sail, Gershon

Line you have been a wonderful addition, regularly posting poems and being very nice and supportive.. A very important first post and you are right it was not living... This was not really a contest, it was an opportunity to showcase your first poem and I am glad you entered. Thank you.

AHA, another one that I adore!! I would put this one and that other one up at first and second place if I were redoing the best poems list (however, I have not seen them ALL yet). Maybe I will change my mind in time. So of the top seven I have just reviewed, which are YOUR top two personal favorites?

Love this one! I have felt the same passions more than once in my life... It is good to be reminded of my feelings back then.

Thanks again for your visit, Andrea. I have to say my own faves are probably the ones that have a spiritual component to them. I appreciate that you appreciate my poetry as I do yours.

WOW, that was an amazing FIRST post at Soup. I see how it won a contest with Brian!! So difficult to win with him but it looks like you pulled it off. Belated congrats for this one. (nowadays we can't enter with poems longer than 20 lines for that guy)

wow, you got in a lot of pages in just being here ONE year!!! What I have done with some poets is just begin at the very beginning and go from there. I saw all of Armand's poetry doing it that way and many other Soupers I have seen all their poems from the beginning. Whenever you visit me, I will be sure to come back to where I left off and catch your older poems. It's the only way I can go step by step to see all your poems that I hope to see.

Caliente-level truth poetry, Line. Such a profound debut poem. Yeah ... you got serious poetic chops. Keep the knowledge drums banging, and the love cymbals clanging. Beautiful lyrical truth speak you. This poem wins the Analytical Eyes prize hands down. Great write, aurora bright poetry. Love and more love always.
