This Book That I Cannot Let Go

I’ve read a lot of books
And I’m sure there’s another one out there
Another life, another world, other words
Another book waiting to be opened
Maybe its cover is pretty
Maybe the blurb isn’t ty
Maybe the book is perfection
But oh, how much I love the one I’ve just read
I’ve read it before and kept it back
Yet I always seem to come back
It’s not mine, it’s borrowed
It’s ever so good and I can’t stop reading
But there’s an empty spot on someone’s shelf
Someone else would probably understand the book better
Someone else would probably take better care of it
Maybe this one’s not meant to be my favourite
Just an introduction to a genre
Oh but the cover’s so gorgeous
And the blurb is too short
Because the book is so deep, so lovely, so calling
And I can’t put it down, I’m all in
But i have to, so I place it away
I tell myself to try other books
Tell myself to get out of my slump
But I still leave my bookmark on my favourite page
