This Bed Mate
Each night
Oh how I struggle
Just turning over in my bed
My back so stiff and painful
Oh no - those cramps inside my leg
I sleep for just two hours
Then awaken through each night
I long to stretch
But dare not move
In case they come
For they just might
So hard to even sit up
Whilst shouting out in pain
The cramps they are excruciating
The Parkinson's debilitating
If only I could have a night
To sleep
To dream
The whole night through
Be normal once again
Before that day
To my dismay
when Parkinson's came to stay
Instead
I am exhausted
and desperate for sleep
I know within no time at all
This bed mate ~ he’s no mate ~ he's mean
He’s in my brain
Works night and day
Stealing all my dopamine
But then
a shining star above
bathes my room
with sparkling light
and fills my heart with such delight
Venus shines ~ a precious gem
And I feel human once again…
