Thinking About Bread -Manna -1971

On one old album cover from my early high school days,
four young men pose casually in the center doorway
of a weathered beige adobe-looking building
with some cracks in its walls.
From left to right, they are dressed in western shirts
blue, black, and brown respectively.
The center guy is crouched down, arms on his thighs
wearing a white shirt and the thin strip of a tie.

This album has a back side interesting as well.
It features an image of four bakers in an old-time kitchen,
but the colors are a muted black and brown.

I look again at the front of the cover.
The large building entrance in which the band members pose
has written above it the word Manna.
Manna is the name in Spanish for bread.
That doorway right in the center of the cover
represents an actual slice of bread.
I don’t believe I’d figured that out before!

I was just a teeny bopper then,
excitedly removing the album from it’s folding cover,
also finding inside it the lyrics to the lovely soft rock songs
sung so beautifully by the soulful lead singer, David Gates.
I’d listen to the songs sometimes
before I went to sleep,
cherishing poetic lines like this:
“If a man could be two places at one time,
I’d be with you - tomorrow and today,
beside you all the way.”

Andrea, nice job on this one. Funny that the entrance on the front cover looks a little like a pizza oven. Maybe they made a lot of "bread" with this one. On a more serious note, you did a great job praising and describing the album. The line you quoted really is lovely. It does express love in a genuine way. Smiles!!

they were very popular from 69 to only about '74. Really beautiful soft rock singers with several hit records.

Manna means bread, Ink. The band's name is Bread, but they used Manna in the doorway as part of the name of the album. Thanks for reading.
