Things I Wish People Would Say To Me

THINGS I WISH PEOPLE WOULD SAY TO ME

Just once for someone to say ‘you have a nice smile’
Instead of ‘what are you grinning at all the while’

Or ‘you really were clever to figure that problem out’
Instead of ‘another lucky shot there, no doubt’.

Tired of remarks about my coat being ‘a detractor’,
Just once I want to hear that it ‘has character’.

And my harmonica music referred t o as ‘damned whining’
Should be praised as ‘such music has a silver lining’.

Till someone says these things to me, I will continue awhile
To cleverly wear my coat, and play, and smile.
