Things I Happen To Like

Of the many things that I like I could go on ad infinitum,
But it would take reams of paper should I list every item!
So I'll confine myself to ten or so things that I like best,
And at some other time I'll bore you with the rest!

I like inscrutable cats and crispy onion rings,
And light classical music featuring melodic strings.
Although some persnickety folks may have their doubts,
Fiddle faddle! I happen to like Brussels sprouts!

I like folks who practice The Golden Rule.
I just happen to like my spouse - she's a real jewel!
I like juicy beefsteak termaters fresh from the vine.
I savor Beringer's White Zinfandel for my taste in wine!

I like concocting poetry though a Shakespeare I'll never be.
I like autumn when crimson and gold cloak every tree!
I could write of pickles and Snickers Bars but I'm limited to ten,
So I must meticulously edit this "masterpiece" and set aside my pen!

Robert, no surprise to me to see your name near the top of my rankings. I love your style of poetry. Very nice flow, easy to read, easy to understand and very much a "common man" message and theme - and, men do not get any more common then me! Thank you for entering this delightful poem in my contest.

I right with you all the way, especially the Maters! And I have over a hundred recordings of the 101 Strings Orchestra! I guess great minds do think alike!

Hold the Brussels sprouts, but bring on the Beringer's white zinfandel -- one of my favorite wines as well. I can tell from your poetry that you practice The Golden Rule, Bob, and I'm glad you mentioned your wife in your top ten! A great list for the contest and I wish you success, dear friend. Love, Carolyn

Great write, Sarge. B. Sprouts and Snickers Bars make my mouth water. I could make a great meal with just the sprouts. My fav food by far. Of course they cause a gas problem afterwards but I don't care, it's well worth it. Other people around me get wind of it. Have a good one, my friend. Good luck. Ralphie
