Things Broken
At least 10 years ago, I broke a lovely blue vase.
Had I tossed it, surely it would have been a waste.
But I gathered the lovely pieces and put them away.
I said to myself, "I shall repair this beauty another day".
Yes, it is true that our Father's image into which
We were created has been marred; and much of
Our soft and gentle heart is now hard and scarred.
So much has been broken because of Adam and Nimrod.
Although we all clearly know;
Still, it's true, I must tell you so.
The truth helps us all to grow,
And at times, even makes us glow.
It's best we pause, but on and on we go.
Even when we know that something is broken,
We close our eyes, and our ears are no longer open.
So often, the wounds are locked deep inside and unspoken.
But we must not give up trying to unthaw what's been frozen.
And the time that we give to trying must be more than token.
It's also true that some broken things can only be mended.
In growing trees, a young one is much easier to be bent.
A few months ago, I came upon the vase pieces I put away.
Yes, I know that 10 years is a long delay; and I should have
Repaired the vase by now. But I still treasure the blue pieces.
