Notes About The Poem

They'Re Playing Our Song

As the heavy wooden door creaked open I could hear the church bell chime All heads turned to witness your arrival Tears filled my eyes as the organist played ‘our’ song… Whitney Houston’s I will always love you The sweet scent of gardenias filled the air as you passed by Your coffin was covered with your favourite flowers I followed behind you and took my place in the pew My darling … I will always love you Submitted to best sad poem ever II sponsored by Laura Loo 15th September 2015

Hey Jan, a warm and hearty congratulations on your wonderful poem winning in the Trashed #3 contest! Chills went through me as I read it and I can hear Whitney's exquisite voice singing this heart wrenching song. I really do wonder about some of these contest judges - oh well - thanks to BW we get to enjoy your excellent poem for ourselves. Be Blessed, Neva

Poignant and beautiful Jan. It is a wonderful entry for the contest. I can't keep up with the contests or the comments but I do what I can with my limited time on the computer because of my vision. Best of luck in the contest!

Well done, Jan; a theme I would not have likely paired with music. Best wishes in the contest.

Very emotive, Jan. You ably touch upon all three requested senses and create the perfect atmpsphere. I love it! ~ Like you, I used flowers for smell, but while you base your poem on end of life, I base mine on the start of life! gl in the contest. Hugs // paul
