They'Re Coming For Me, and You
It’s getting harder to look the other way
While paused at traffic lights
Just down the road from my own driveway
The haggard-faced algorithms jostling all four corners
Stabbing to death the last of the flowers
With their prickly weeds of guns and elbows
These Zealots Deniers and Illiterate
First in red hats
But make no doubt, after that
And after QAnon
There’ll be another more sinister smarter
Monolith
Cranking these poor believers in their backs
Winding them up
To overwhelm the fewer of us left
So forward they march
Hands grabbing
At our rolled up windows for their coins of “lost” rights
“May God Bless You”
The Trojan Horse with radios blaring
I’m the only one here nervously singing to myself
It’s but the opening line
Before they skin then burn
You and me
Alive
Like when the Christian mobs
Stormed Hypatia’s home in Alexandria
Dragged her out
Pulled her limbs apart
As if her liberal institutions
Of math science literature and philosophy
Were an Octopus of the Divine
Elite blame
For the people who’ve been left behind
She was shocked and you’ll be sorry.
I roar home on the wheels of the Four Philosophers
Who fled to Greece after the murder of Hypatia
Seeking a last haven for civilization
Yet no one heard from them again.
A certain wannabe Caesar
Was pleased with his minions
But of course he became the last
As they rose for him as well.
In my case
Garage door up garage door down
Sit on the couch
TV blasting the click bait Right Wing howls
“If it’s complicated it’s a trick on you!”
Indeed
The Earth will burn down by 2040
And a new Dark Age will overtake us all.
