They Thought I Was Dead

They thought I was dead,
Laying in the cold ground,
But little did they know,
My spirit was still around.

I saw them gather 'round,
And heard their mournful cries,
But deep inside I laughed,
For I was still alive.

They spoke of my good deeds,
And shared fond memories,
But as they wept and prayed,
I shook my ghostly knees.

I longed to reach out and touch,
To show them I was there,
But alas, my form was ghostly,
And they were unaware.

So though they thought I was dead,
And laid me to final rest,
I still watch over them,
As their eternal guest.

And though my physical body,
Lies in the silent earth,
My spirit dances with joy,
For it has found new worth.

So let them think I'm gone,
For I'm happy where I am,
A ghostly presence still alive,
In the hearts of my loved ones.
