These Little Lies

I’m fine I say
As my breathing speeds up
I don’t care I repeat
As the tears start to fall
These words I say
These little lies
Won’t calm the rain brewing in my eyes
It’s okay I whisper
In the dead of night
Just calm down
I say while my mind weeps
These words I say
These little lies
Won't work on me despite the tries
My mind won’t listen
When I say I’m fine
That’s because my mind won’t lie
My brain won’t agree
That I’m okay
That’s because my brain remembers the day
So I’ll say I'm fine
I’ll lie I’m okay
Because I know these little lies
Are here to stay
