I actually sung this walking by the sea in Eire before I wrote it. This is a song and has a melody but although it has been sung by friends at musical evenings, it has never been recorded. If anyone is interested in collaborating with me to add authentic Irish music to the lyrics if they contact me I can provide a very basic acapella recording, but I am no singer it would just be to provide the melody.
With each turn of the tide,
The beach opens up wide,
The Irish sands stretch for many a mile;
And all around can be seen
More than forty shades of green,
There’s so many things in Ireland to make you smile.
At the water’s edge I walk, waves gently lap the shore,
I feel so happy to be back home.
The lilting Irish voices talk and in my mind I store
Pictures that I’ll take where ere I roam.
Clouds scud across the sky, the sun’s warm on my back,
The sound of the sea is ringing in my ears;
And I get to wondering why I joined the world’s rat-race track,
To come back home has taken many years.
As I climb up off the beach, Irish jigs play in a bar,
And my heart is dancing with the beat,
Here heaven is within reach, I’m much happier by far
Than when I’m walking down a city street.
With each turn of the tide,
The beach opens up wide,
The Irish sands stretch for many a mile;
And all around can be seen
More than forty shades of green,
There’s so many things in Ireland to make you smile.
And all around can be seen
Far more than forty shades of green,
There’s so many things in Ireland to make you smile.
