There's Always Time For a Swim

Standing by the lake So calm and blue A cool breeze blowing in from Canada Blue skies above The sun making glistening diamonds in the waves It seems so tranquil Almost inviting me to walk in I look again Behind me there is stress and turmoil Hiding in the trees, weeds and flowers Below the waves lies eternal rest The quiet that only Poseidon can provide I watch the waves lapping onto the shore Their fantasies draw me closer Begging me to join them To be with them How far could I get When would the waves envelop me? Taking me into their darkness There is no way to know even if they would I look for a distant shore But it is not there I wonder what it would be like Then I turn away Looking again at the peaceful water I walk down the beach Looking at the blue sky, the white sun And I see a glimmer of hope I decide that the waves can wait The dreaminess of Poseidon’s rest Can wait for another day There is always time for a swim

It must be getting warm early up there in Pennsylvania, Robert. I've always wondered what it would be like to swim in one of the Great Lakes. (I didn't know they had waves.) There is a welcome serenity in this lovely poem. Love, Carolyn
