There's a Virus

There’s a Virus

There’s a virus! Let’s go mental quick
Lock up your valuables they might get sick
There’s a virus! The media’s gone crazy
You'll lose your hair and you'll become lazy
There’s a virus! Let’s all run for the hills
Grab your coffins because they say it kills!
There’s a virus! Abandon the schools!
That’s brilliant the government likes fools!
There’s a virus! Please give it a rest!
It kills the elderly if they don’t wear a vest!
There’s a virus! It’s just like last year
But the media love it because you're filled with fear!
There’s a virus! All right! crawling on all fours!
I’ll live like a hermit and won't go outdoors
There’s a virus! Well I’m ready to go!
I don't believe this over hyped, media show!
There’s a virus! But it’s now on page ten
There's something new and it all starts again!

Great poem! Yes, there's a virus. Unfortunately, the media blew everything out of proportion, creating fear and doubt.

So many different opinions on this. To me it was a five minute rant against lockdown. I am sorry for those who succumbed. Thanks for reading. Dave

I look at it like this, it's poetry! One poem I wrote was about a guy dumping me, which never happened, it was a love poem. I got so many "I feel so sad for you" comments. It's a poem!

Spot on David, So many Sheep around. I too have written poems on this issue, just have not been brave enough to post here. I commend you.

I am not brave, just stupid, perhaps? That I left it on Poetry Soup. I wrote this before it all kicked off and at times I read it and cringe. It's controversial, but we have free speech. On other issues: many follow and never question. I, like you, tend to analyse the situation and question sometimes. Thanks for reading, Dave.

but try to convince my daughter that the reaction wasn't justified after her 5th grade school teacher and one of her cousins died from it, or my wife after two former co-workers and the daughter of one of her co-workers died from it. I think that they would dispute the conclusions to which you have insinuated. If I have misinterpreted your intent, please accept my apology and by all means continue to express it, the technical aspects of your write are good.

As you can see when I wrote this it was the early days. My views changed and I am grateful for the vaccines. I left as a poem, but in retrospect, I am, grateful and my sympathies go to all those who suffered and lost. Dave

I'm not sure how to interpret the tone of your poem. The words seem quite sarcastic toward the global reaction to the COVID outbreak. Although I have leaned toward the idea of an overreaction to the severity of the disease myself, would it have been better to under-react? I gather that you have been reasonably unaffected by the disease itself, and I don't care to debate the millions of people around the world who have reportedly died or even the 3024 in the county where I live, lies ? maybe,

Read your poem, I find it very difficult to understand. I was involved in SARS1, it was terrifying. Those that are not healthcare professionals, don't truly understand this virus is no joke or hoax, it is DEADLY. Have a read about the first experience with SARS . I wrote a poem dedicated to all Canadian Healthcare professionals during the first outbreak which we managed to contain. Maybe you will see this isn't a media scare, its truth and its not over yet.

Thanks. It was written before it all kicked off and is pretty flippant. Sometimes, I get an idea and just write. Thank you for reading. Dave

Hi Dave, A lot of people didn't and don't believe all we were fed. What is scary, is being vilified for thinking otherwise and not being allowed to question the whole thing. Frances

This poem is a tribute to one of my idols. Well done. "The whole aim of practical politics is to keep the populace alarmed (and hence clamorous to be led to safety) by menacing it with an endless series of hobgoblins, all of them imaginary." ~~ H. L. Mencken

Hi Richard, everything we see, hear, and do is used to frighten us into a cowed state of misery. I appreciate you reading my poem. Thanks. Dave.

Jan, Thanks for the comment. I'm sick and tired of this virus. It's flu-end of. I'll check out some of your stuff, if that's okay? Take care, Dave
