There Was This Time

There was this time...........
In a far away land
Where things become magical
I opened my eyes............
To see what was pressed into my hand

My fingers opened
The sun on my face,
was nothing like the glow
in my hand below
So bright!

I couldn't hear the words
that I spoke
The light itself.........
Touched my coat
The distant birds........
Singing paused
What I held in my hand.......
Could stop all wars

I looked around...........
He was gone
The birds
The sound
I couldn't hear the words

What I held.............
The magic spelled
What was given to me...............
was given away,
by someone today

What I found in my hand,
shining like a firefly
It's wings fanned
Cannot be kept, in this land

I walked on ,in this far away land
I spied this old man in a tattered coat
I couldn't hear the words that I spoke

He looked up at me.............
Clutching his ripped coat.........
Something caught in my throat
I pressed in to his hand,
what was given away
He started to cry
He needed it more than I

When given away,
what is in the hand,
glows bright
Reveals it's self,
in a kindly light

Kindness...................
Given away .....you see
It was then I recognized the old man.........
The person who gave,
in that magical land...........
That person.............
Was me............

What I have learned.........
Kindness..........
Given away.............
Always returned

I could hear the words,
that I spoke........
They caught in my throat
My coat, tattered
It never mattered
