There Is No Heat

THERE IS NO HEAT

THERE IS NO HEAT AND SNOW IS EVERYWHERE
I LOOK AT NYC COVERED WITH WHITE
SPREADING WINTER FROM LAND TO SHORE
WELCOME TO THE YEAR 2000
AN UNKNOWN HOMELESS-ONE SHOUTS
AMONGST THE CROWD
HIS MATTRESS STUCK UNDER THE BRIDGE
WITH SKYSCRAPERS AS WALLS FOR PROTECTION
AND YELLOW CABS AS FURNITURE
IN AND OUT MOVING LIVING-ROOM
FLASHING LIGHTS
THERE IS NO HEAT BUT BODY HEAT
IN THE STREETS OT THE YEAR 2000
NEW YORK IS NO DIFFERENT THAN BEFORE
IT'S WINTER-TIME AND TIME-SQUARE FREEZES AGAIN
RAGING ITS RIGHTS OF HUMAN LIVES
FORGOTTEN STORIES THAT WILL DIE FROM ABANDONED SPIRITS
LOST IN A MILLION IGNORED WHEN
THERE IS NO HEAT IN THE CITY
