There is Darkness at the Edge of Love

So thus, the flaming red gives way to pink As words that touched a heart now coldly sting For love, poor bastard of a thousand nights, Lays spent upon the failing lilt of wit It has not died yet withers on thin vines Beneath the pagan sky of winter’s hope Kneels now before the tilted stones of dread Awaits a passing shadow’s flaming heart For there is darkness at the edge of love An empty place where smold’ring embers cool And dreams, that cry in memory of stones And shadow’s that have failed to lead them home For love is but the longing of two hearts Its darkness where it ends, not where it starts

You're absolutely right, John. One wonders... how can anything so full of light and hope tumble into a dark abyss when it fades from red to pink. But it gives a reason to write tragic love stories in ink.

Aptly expressed! Enamoured with your Verse, John. Superb imagery, just lovely writing, - captures the ebb, lament, the nature of change.
