Then and Now
I’m a little older now, ’tis true
The colours on the canvas
Now all in autumn hue
Moons ago
It seemed as though
The past would never be
Sweet scents of spring
Would bring
Summer sun
And childhood fun
Endless days a dream come true
Until
Fading light welcomed the night
Another day has dawned
And I’ve over slept
Cheeks creased with linen folds
And hair like a haystack
I lift lazy eyes lethargically
And reminisce nostalgically
The past is painted well
In the present now
My eyes adjust
I’ve learned the skill
Of standing still
The moments
Won’t be born again you know
They’re silhouettes on stepping stones
Against a new horizon
I’d love to linger here a little longer
What was and is
Must step aside without delay
The future has to come
Days are short in winter months
Old Comfort Zone will caution me
Of challenge chance and risk
But move I must
For should I stay
The future will for sure
Very soon be spent
