Their Winter Wonderland

THEIR WINTER WONDERLAND

Along the quiet country lane they walked;
Footsteps crunching the freshly settled snow.
Sometimes in silence; in between they talked
Of hopes and dreams, of where their lives would go.
Lost to the world within loves tender glow,
Knowing their love would only grow and grow.
They lingered, leaning on a five-barred gate
And gazed across the meadow, pristine white.
The winter sun found strength to penetrate
The broken cloud and cast a shaft of light,
To bathe the tree-lined hill, a wonderous sight.
And, watching from the gate, he held her tight.
They climbed the gate and wandered hand-in-hand,
Until they reached the centre of the lea,
Where, in the middle of the farmer’s land,
He turned to face her, dropping to one knee.
“One day”, he murmured, “will you marry me?”
“You fool”, she said, “you know that cannot be.
I married you on Sunday, did I not?”
“Oh yes, of course”, he said, I quite forgot”.

Congratulations, Bryn. Wonderful rhythm and rhyme and we certainly can't accuse you of being predictable! Best wishes Wendy

Congratulations Bryn, your poem earned a distinguished place in my contest, due to the exacting syllable counts and perfect rhyme requirements this contest was very tough to judge, well done my friend, Emile.

You captured me with your words,a beautiful scene,star-crossed lovers. I was there and then Bryan you rogue, you shattered the illusion with your ending. Nevertheless I did enjoy it.

Sorry, Sylvia, I sometimes can't resist a twist. Don't worry about the name. I've been called worse!
