Theater of Utter Charm Part 6
keeping low walking softly blending in
as a defensive buttress against you name it
shall we get back to categories vs. kaleidoscope
asked the autisticly artistic ship's doctor
his specialty more melancholia than anesthesia
I'll gladly tell you that much
which in every case is not saying a lot
the search for the real McCoy left us
a navy of derelicts gripped both by sloth
and the effortless expectation of a better world
gambling like shirtless fools
in the $2 line at Sliding Downs
an occasional winner all happy and huggy
trying to feel glad to be alive
he may have a case say the latest reports
from the invariant laws of the Universe
somehow giving birth to variation
well there's a clue heading in a specific direction
what direction is that you might ask
one with traffic lanes and invisible cops
sworn to uphold the unenforceable code
non rigorously enforced
by the usual spiritual gangsters
variety seems strange to them
they cannot gage its endlessness properly
in spite of their instantaneous metrics
and core impulse to seek the presumed efficient line
between strength and finality
needing a suitcase full of over the horizon
let me loosen the latch
and look inside your Pandora for you
had an example in here somewhere
a madman in the employ of the forces of sanity
go figure
what else could be in here
subject object predicate
our first memories are of being looked at
this is our foundation
it is inescapable
the second matter
there is a threshold of intelligence
below which one cannot be taught
without the animal hungers tearing your flesh
our only defense is a wail of disgrace
it kills us to be alive and a helpless idiot
because the smarter you get
the more you really can kick down
the tromp l'oeil movie set walls
and strictures of a retrograde catechism
you cannot enter the realms of creation
unarmed and afraid
unless you are impossibly innocent of all charges
and know it to be a kangaroo court
of your own devising I mean despising
consciousness is the combination
of all our senses taking it all on
so there you are a head start
in getting to know your surroundings
as well as your infillings
archeology sifting the landfills
whose scarred bones of inquisition echo
through the surrounding meadow grasses
their slender shoots greet the cruelty
with a stuttering amazement
bent and buffeted in the wind
like a jerky puppet on a drunken string
