The Wound That Still Bleeds

As the time does pass we build a illusion to keep us blind.
Bury thoose feelings and hide any pictures.
Erase all the traces but it only takes a second to remind.

Overgrown is the path that to are past leads.
Ignorance is never bliss.
As I confess the wound still bleeds.

Bottles of whiskey shimmer under the bars light.
The dance floor is a flood.
The band plays through every new romance and drunken fight.

You say to yourself you no longer care.
Then you catch a flash of the past and remember the scent
of her hair.

Remember that night and how she looked in that dress.
Would you change it all .
To a half empty bottle you confess

take in strangers for every lost soul has it"s needs.
Fade in the darknes.
And live to be drianed slowley by the wound that
still bleeds.

congrats on your win with this one--it's no wonder why--your poems tell it as it is but in such a gripping manner, well written (i must say your first stanza is really nicely done) and looking forward to reading more of your work :)

Congratulations, John R. You did it well! Your “Write Now” poem is among the winners in Matt’s contest. You did at great job letting your thoughts go, freely. (It reminded me of the folks at the Cabaret...a huge western bar/club, in El Paso Texas in the 1980's... too many broken windows often over the gals. They finally closed it down... too many bleeding wounds, I guess.) Keep up the good writing. You took me back a some years to a place that I lived near. SMILES… Dane Ann

There are hurtful events that will always haunt us. I hope the path to the past that becomes "overgrown" completely disappears so people who feel this type of pain can move forward. And how right you ar when you say "take in strangers for every lost soul has its needs." It shows the kindness that appears in many of your poems, John. Love you, Carolyn
