The Worst Table In the House

The Worst Table In the House

By Elton Camp

We went to dine at the newest café
“Have a seat here,” the waiter did say

Every other table in the place was filled
So to be seated so quickly, we were thrilled

A minute later, we both began to frown
At hearing an unmistakable flushing sound

And then, the next thing that we knew
A kitchen odor made us say, “Phew!”

Servers carrying trays of food passed by
To quickly lean away we had to try

The bus boy was just barely able
Not to spill his garbage on our table

A heating vent bombarded us with air
We wished we sat anywhere but there

We called the manager to complain
At that spot, we refused to remain

Our next visit, a new sign we spied
And “our” table remained unoccupied

“Worst Table in the House,” it read
Offered a discount there to be fed
