The Words We Speak
A pen may be mighty, and the tongue may be strong
But the brain is the most powerful -
For everything else that follows, simply tags along
It thinks all of your thoughts, and tells you what to move
But can make you say the words you wrote [with the pen] -
As if by speaking, a point you can prove
But after it’s been said, you cannot take it back
While the mouth may be closed, and the words scribbled out -
With the pen placed back atop the paper stacks
No matter how hard you try to grasp, at the words floating in the air
And despite your attempts to mend, the wounds you have left
The meaning behind your words, will always be there
So think really hard, before you start to speak
For it is near impossible to tell
When someone’s will starts to become weak
A simple utterance of an insult, no matter how disguised
Can have the power, in any communicable form
To make someone want to act, on their death plans they’ve carefully devised
Within a society, that depends on the media to pass around
Personal information is easily leaked,
And lead to another body, placed beneath the ground
We have forgotten what it means, to speak with select few
About thing said in confidence
Meant only to be heard by you
And because of this, so many take it, upon themselves to spread
These words like wildfires across a prairie,
We only know the effect we have, when the subject has been found dead
The impact our words have, are greater than we think
We say so many mean and cruel things to people
when the connection with our brains and mouth, seems to be missing a link
It is then that we discover, the turmoil we have caused
And the push we have given someone
To put their life on permanent pause
I apologize for the youth, who have forgotten the old ways
Of monitoring what is said, within today’s day and age
So much has happened, and much still needs to be done
But I believe eventually, one will rise above it all, and give peace and hope to everyone
