The Wine of Poetry

The wine of poetry's a potent brew Best not imbibed in drafts but smaller sips So flavors linger longer on the lips And meanings have more time to filter through. True poets will succeed, if given time, In bringing forth the reason out of rhyme, And even though their names may be forgot, The legacy of verse they leave will not. And in their words the truth will be laid bare, That poetry's a wine the world can share. The vintage does not matter, old or new, Or if the vintner's name from mem'ry slips. Domestic or imported, drafts or sips, The wine of poetry's a potent brew.

What an innovative salutation to poetry...its an addiction of a different kind reasoning with rhyme....do give us more of them.

Indeed it is potent. For example, I was at The Booth Cowboy Museum. I went to the library there and found a wonderful poetry book. Published in 1974. I was able to get a copy from Amazon. There is 1 left on Amazon now. “Westward from Bald Mountain” by Bettie M. Sellers. (Like a piece of art to me)

Absolutely delightful Jim! Wonderful metaphors and images! Very, very creative write! Enjoyed it! Have you thought about entering it in the "Why I Write' contest? Such a wonderfully composed poem I think would place very high. Blessings.

Sam, thank you so much for your generous comments. No, I haven't gotten around to any contests yet. Thanks, though, for the thought and the compliment.
