The Wine of Poetry
The wine of poetry's a potent brew
Best not imbibed in drafts but smaller sips
So flavors linger longer on the lips
And meanings have more time to filter through.
True poets will succeed, if given time,
In bringing forth the reason out of rhyme,
And even though their names may be forgot,
The legacy of verse they leave will not.
And in their words the truth will be laid bare,
That poetry's a wine the world can share.
The vintage does not matter, old or new,
Or if the vintner's name from mem'ry slips.
Domestic or imported, drafts or sips,
The wine of poetry's a potent brew.
