The Window

When the window was shattered by the ball,
I came running down the hall...
Opening the door for someone to claim,
There stood little Tony saying, "I'm not to blame."

"Who hit the ball, Tony?", my voice said with salt,
"I don't know...It's not my fault."
"Who's fault is it?", in persistence said I,
Little Tony didn't answer, just started to cry.

"I didn't do it, Mr C" he whimpered..."You have no proof."
"I never said you did, Tony"...becoming more aloof.
"I only asked who did this", I said,
Now he had me scratching my head.

Then Tony's brother Bill came looking for his ball,
"Oh, I'm sorry about the broken window and all."
"Don't worry about that...it's just a pane."
He smiled and said, "I got a homer so, I will show no shame."

Loved your use of those four sentences, in fact I'm loving all the entries for this contest so far. I think we've all been on both sides of this situation and can empathise equally. Great read ~ Sharon :)

This is a cute membrance from childhood "accidents" and I'm glad no one got mad at Tony for breaking the window. Soup mail returned, Daniel. I'm back! Love, Carolyn
