The Why of War
If I take away war
I have to give the people
something else to fight for
A warrior's welcoming
never lasts long.
So the story I am telling
using prose and poetry
has to be the right mix
to satisfy humanity's itch
without devaluing
the question being asked
You don't realize that
we fight harder
to destroy a country
than saving it.
Spend more time planning
an invasion
than emptying our prisons.
Show me why you fight and
it tells me what you love
has been the mode of operandi
But what I have been shown
by America
has me asking what am I
fighting for?
T.S.
*Disclaimer: America is an amazing place to live and fight for, but it's patriotic fervor is a bit misplaced. Everytime a spear is thrown some poor bastard must go and retrieve it thinking, "Is the lion really dead?" An amazing amount of stress goes along with fighting unseen enemies. Realize, when you thank a Soldier, he or she says, ""Thank you," while remaining silent on plenty of other issues.
Some may argue that the lion deserved to die, and however true that statement may or not be, it was the same statement that started Kaepernick taking a knee.
