The white roses were there

This poem is in memory of a sweet, elderly lady who passed away recently. As I was there when she died, I've needed time to work through the emotions. As much as death is part of life, it's still an adjustment for those of us left behind.

Rest in peace, P. May we honour your life through acts of goodness and grace. You are missed by all who knew you.

The white roses were there
When you closed your blue eyes
For the very last time

The white roses were there
When your soul took flight
And you went home to heaven

The white roses were there
When we said goodbye
To your body lying still and peaceful

The white roses were there
When we cried and shared our grief
The shock still lingering despite reality

The white roses were there
When they came to take you away
With quiet dignity and reverence

The white roses were there
When we drew the curtains
And turned off the lights

The white roses were there
When we closed the door
And tried to go about our lives

The white roses were there
When we couldn't sleep at night
And held memories close in the moonlight

The white roses were there
When we drew back the curtains
And let the sunlight in

The white roses were there
When we opened the windows
And let fresh air breathe life into the house again

The white roses were there
Every day, every hour, every minute
And now they are gone

They're with you up in heaven
There in the peace and magic
Of hope and faith and love

Thanks for sharing this... exposing your thoughts through your unique poetic style. Meanwhile, I greet you with the love of the Lord, expressed by John 3:16 of the Bible, "For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life." Be blessed.
