The weight of words

Words are weapons that they wield with care,
Each cruel remark, a wound upon my soul.
They do not see the scars that hide down there,
The silent hurt that fills me, makes me whole.
They speak their hate, not knowing what they’ve done,
Each syllable a battle, lost, then won.
I try to smile, to act as if I’m fine,
But in my heart, I bleed with every line.
Yet still, I stand, though broken in my core,
For I am more than what they say of me.
Their words cannot define me, can’t restore
The pain they leave, the truth that they don’t see.
For words are sharp, but I will not be swayed,
I’ll rise above, my strength will never fade.
