The Weight of a Smile
steps
passing by the road
sometimes avoiding
you
shadows
hold their breaths
gazes
slide
like rain
over cold asphalt
the air
hangs
still
between your chest
and the world
echoes
forgets their way
and yet,
in a corner
forgotten by time,
someone
a stranger
or a stray
smiles at you
honestly
and that
weighs
as much as all the roads
where
no one
has ever set foot
before.
