The Way It Was and Is

The Way It Was and Is

First came slate boards
then came chalk boards
now it is screens on the walls

What a delight it was
when I was young
the first day of school
when it would come
new clothes new class
we all had a blast.

I remember seeing leaves to begin to change
colors and Autumn smells were here to stay
Autumn was not going away

Even though my school years
are no longer here
I still enjoy this time of year
