the way I was taught

On a scale of one to a hundred
I want to do this between a two and a three
Okay, I agree right away
because I am easy

Because I put everyone else’s feelings ahead of my own.
I throw them into the train engineer’s private cabin
whereas my feelings are thrown onto the rails
while the train of life goes clicky clack all over them

Because I was taught that my feelings are not important
But
This is important
Let’s not miss this

Everyone else’s feelings are more important than anything but God
My identical twin and I often laugh about how long it took for us to say no
Raised by a mother who never had a problem saying it
I was in my forties; I think before I could say "no, I don't want to do it."
My sister said she was in her sixties.
