The Waves
We walk along the shore together.
We stop, and look out upon the sea.
Words come to the surface,
and sink again,
unspoken.
You hold my hand,
and my heart hears the sound of music...
all around,
with no one nearby at all,
but the call of the seagulls in the distance.
The mermaids laugh watching us.
They know nothing of true love,
and yet pray they may someday,
touch the land,
and hear a band...
and then stand.
The dolphins swim by,
on their way to tomorrow.
They tease us, and please us
with their antics.
You laugh and break the silence between us,
the timbre, the resonance...
like a thousand pieces of fine glass,
raining down from the heavens
and changing the light of the rainbow
it created as it glanced off the surface
of each individual piece shaped
by the moment,
that can never be
repeated.
My soul is close to God,
when I am near to you.
He gave you to me,
so I would be complete.
I am on my knees
asking...
please...
stay a while,
stay as long as you can,
and take my hand,
into forever.
