The War Within

I write upon the agonizing war within
me, the war between my fear of Covid
and desire to see my mother,
who was in her death bed.
She chose to die at home, not at the hospital.
The home Corona virus invaded.

Saw her the night she was discharged, which I dreaded.
Entering the house with fear was brutal.
With shaking knees, stood by her bed.
Caressed her hair, touched her
face and arms and held her hand and in turn she did
hold mine and alone with her I stayed in.

Could not shake off my fear, qualm, angst while I was in
there for all, except one became covid
positive, including mother.
Minutes later, I said
"I love you" and left, although I had personal
protective equipment, home I headed.

So sad my friend, and timely. Have heard so many of these sorrowful tales. Your pain hopefully will dissipate on this page.

Thank you so much, Caren. The overwhelming fear numbed me. I could not think and feel for two weeks. I could not believe exposing myself to the virus when I know how dangerous it is.

Very expressive and emotive work you have penned in this one. Reads like a good contender for the contest. I have tried to avoid the illness. I hope that no one in my immediate family gets sick and to the point of death. We have had it in my family but they were not seriously ill. My husband has had a cousin seriously ill but he is back home now recovering. Thanks for the visit to my page.Sara

Sara, thanks so much for your compliments. Unfortunately 20 members of my family contracted it and two died, my niece and my brother. My mother contracted it; but recovered from it. However, her renal failure could have been caused by being corona positive because they had to transfer her to another dialysis center, so she did not have dialysis for five days causing renal failure.

Hi Marilene, It was hard for me to read this write. Your fear is understandable. I’m sure your mom understood too.COVID reared it’s ugly head in your family. Best wishes in the contest. Stay safe- Alexis

Thanks so much, Alexis. I am very fortunate not to have it, when I was shoulder to shoulder with my brothers and sisters who were all recovering from the virus in such a small bed-room. I also got my first dose of vaccine. Be safe.

Thanks so much, Anne-Lise. I visited three more times before she died the following week with overwhelming fear. Four out of my five brothers and my two sisters contracted the virus and they were all there. Every visit was nerve wracking.
