The Wait That Never Ended

I stood there for you, Waiting for your return, Long enough for you to realize How my precious love, care, And affection can't be denied. The sun rose high, The moon began to shine, Days flew past, Rains came and went by, Yet I still stood there, waiting for you to arrive. My eyes swollen, red, and blurry, Face dull and pale, Lips dry and aching, Still, I waited for you to come back. Days turned to weeks, Each one crushing my hopes again and again. How long would it take? I wondered-until my very last breath. And then, there you were, Emerging from the haze. My eyes went blind As the sound of laughter reached my ears. Tears fell as you held Your queen's hand tight. Jealousy surged, Yet my pain chose to hide. But as if that pain was not enough, I came to realize- It was all a lie That shattered my life. All the while I stood waiting, You never even thought twice.

Aditi, I just read all your poems to date. And I like your style of writing. I see myself as a character in this poem, you. That's the emotion it evoked in me. I've been there. I know that feeling. I've waited, too, only to be slighted in both the flesh and also in nightmares.

That really means a lot to me. Writing these poems helps me process things, but knowing that someone else connects with them on such a deep level—it’s just… surreal. I get that feeling, the waiting, the hurt, even the nightmares. It’s tough. But hey, you’re not alone in this. Thank you for reading and sharing this with me. It truly means the world.
