The Voice

In my dreams I hear a voice, It beckons me, Yet when I stop and listen all I hear is silence, I lay awake lost in thought as time begins to slow, As each time I drift to sleep, The voice beckons me, Yet again I only hear silence, So I wake, As I lay awake Reality seems to shift, As I lose consciousness. My mind begins to race, I see a face full of life, I hear laughter, I sense a heart so pure and kind, I wish to reach out and hold her, Yet still all I see is darkness, I call out, Yet all that returns is silence, Then again I wake Still no answers I have, I only wish to see her I only wish to hold, I only wish to lay with her, Then maybe I can rest, And find peace But as days roll to weeks and weeks to months, Still I lay awake each night, Hoping a praying to see her, Yet each time a fall asleep Again I’m only met with darkness and silence, It’s maddening, I lose hope to ever sleep, I lose hope to ever see her, So each night I stay awake my body begins to weaken My mind begins to slow, I begin to wither, Maybe in death I will rest and see her again.
