The Virtue of Hope

We supplicate her when we mourn She is the rose and we the thorn to those who sorrowfully grieve alone, bewildered and forlorn She offers sinners a reprieve and comforts sad hearts that aggrieve Lifts us up when we're feeling down In her we must deeply believe She can remove a worried frown Rescue us when we start to drown Grant us the courage to endure A saving grace without a crown Humbly, do we pray to ensure our faith is virtuous and pure This Christian virtue we should seek For hope we pray. God, we adjure He blesses the modest and meek who are weary, fragile and weak But with hope as a dividend our lives will no longer look bleak On our Lord's love we can depend Hope He provides as a godsend to ease fears and anxieties God is our Father and our Friend

Love is the greatest virtue, but wee must have hope along with it. Without hope we're doomed.

Thanks so much, Lindsay. A Rubaiyact takes a bit of thought and effort, but when it comes together it gives a sense of satisfaction. I appreciate your kind comments.

Hello Sir Thomas. It took some thought and a bit of stepping back to get a better perspective of exactly what I hoped to convey. Thank you for thinking I've succeeded.

This is a perfect write, Jenna. I loved the interlocking stanza rhymes, but it was the message that sang out loudly and clearly. Good stuff!

Thank you, Milt. I'm grateful for your kind remark. I can't figure out a few judgement calls from sponsors, so I hardly think it's worth my effort. After all, those who sponsor contests are not always qualified to do so, thus we are sometimes spitting into the wind.

I'm beginning to feel the same way, Jan and Jenna. I write what I consider to be a fine entry, then, I read some of the winners and I can't believe mine didn't even place. I find it hard to explain. Jenna, you had a poem that didn't place recently and I was, frankly, shocked! I couldn't figure out why. Oh, well....

I think I'm once again at the edge of the road when it comes to entering contests, Jan. There are too many discrepancies in judgement calls. If I enter any in the future, it'll be with an eye toward the judges and/or themes. Thanks for being a supportive ally.
