The Valley Below

The Valley Below

Maybe there's a springtime
Beyond the distant hill
Where the colors shine forth
From rose to daffodil
Could be the songbirds sing
A beautiful soft tune
Knowing that summertime
Will be here very soon

Right now in the valley
There's snow up to our knees
We would give anything
To feel that new spring breeze
Might just be the mountain
That's standing in the way
We don't see the sunshine
Until far into the day

Someone once had told us
To take the mountain down
No one seems to live there
No wildlife's e'er been found
Yet it is a feature
That's been here, oh, so long
And life itself would change
If ever it was gone

So, for now we leave it
Exactly where it stands
And for all that follow
There'll be no change of plans
We may grumble and moan
Through darkness and snow
But everyone that's here
Still loves this valley low
