The Unveiling

There in the air
below the green trees
bees dance in the heat of the sun

Clouds harvest and darken
blocking the dim and dusky light
the ground beneath is cool and waiting

Years pass before the rain falls
before storms gather and crack the sky
many years of brown leaves and bare trees

A sudden journey across the ancient ocean
from the Old world to the New
dreams packed tight in swollen suitcases

****

An arduous life is forged
out of vigilance and hard work
a harmony of joy and love and sorrow

The matriarch of the clan
the indisputable rock
foundation for the lives that came after

The lives of your children
seekers of wisdom and magic
carry your name in their broken hearts

The silent days and years are done
the battered trees are quivering and bare
but you, beloved, will always be here
