The Untouchable
we stretch every muscle in our bodies
prepared to reach, to jump
preparing with hard work, our words, our personalities
hoping for the best, planning for the worst
We know it's not right
We know that it's impossible
to reach this impeccable state was to dream
our minds tell us no, hearts say yes
tears are shed, screams escape
but we all try, every waking hour
Every day is showtime
I reach to touch the untouchable
the sheer coating shatters into pieces
my mind is torn apart
the spirits sigh and take a deep breath
there is always a tomorrow until there isn't
to much ambition, too much certainty
I had fought with every bone in my body
to seize an idea sought after,
to reach the stars, with no spaceship
it can't be done, some things just won't happen
yet it had been practiced in every soul
in every human being on this planet
long before my time
we all shatter our dreams
knowing that some states can't be reached
a mere second can break the chances
It does
and why do we try to reach it
to touch the untouchable
and think that one day, just once
we could reach up into the clouds and pull down
the wild card that gives us what we thought we wanted.
The wild card of perfection
