The Unseen Fiend

There is a coward hiding deep within the walls of helpless beings only to strike its hardest when they are at their weakest. Indiscriminate and wielding the power of a merciless god, it shreds the soul’s dwelling place, inflicting pain and sorrow. This fiend is unseen, but its attack is gruesome. In its cruel wake, Death becomes the higher god - offering up sweet release. For Joann Grisetti's Cantankacerous Poetry Contest

This flows through the rhythm so beautifully! When dealing with required metrical standards poems can become clumsy and ungrammatical. This is superlative! Vivid imagery and language... BRAVO YOU, and congratulations!! Keith :))

What a dark, savage poem. It seems like you have taken inspiration from Stephen King or H.P. Lovecraft for this one. Nice! Peace & Love Matthew Anish

Yes! This bastard convinces people to really look around at the injustices, greed and violence rampant on this Earth, makes them decide on death. Oooowww, what a fine write! Love, daver

an accurate portrayal of the unseen attack on people and their loved ones. cruel indeed. amazing ending - love how "sweet release" really contrasts with the darkness and cruelty in the poem.

A dark write, Andrea, perhaps of antithesis and contradictions? Feels strange coming from the bubbly you.:( Still, been there and the only way out, is up! Best wishes, love, Mikki
