The Unexplained

In the year 1900 a Texas judge Went exploring on horseback all alone Deep in the West Texas sand dunes he rode Searching for ancient artifacts and bone Near buried in sand stood forty wagons No bodies - no tools -no hint of treasure Perhaps a hundred souls made up this train Formed in a "V" for defensive measure A massacre seems clear but who is unknown No reports of missing trains have been found No hint of searches for loved ones exists No clue on whether East or Westward bound Often at night solutions I ponder Did the souls find a home or still wander 10-01-20 Contest: Unexplained Sponsor: Carolyn Devonshire

This must be based on a true event, Larry, because you have given so much detail. This is the kind of discovery I would love to make myself. Excellent writing! Congratulations on a first-place win. Best wishes, Carolyn

I'm pretty sure we'll never know. There are coyotes out there by the hundreds so we'll never see any bones. There are some good articles about the whole thing I could send you the URL's if you are interested. Soup mail me if you'd like.

I don't know the answer to your question, so maybe you will write a sequel. Seriously, the "V" formation makes me think there was an attack, but there were pandemics back then too. Maybe we'll never know...

Thanks so much Carolyn. Yes, it's a true if mysterious event still puzzled over today.Estimated time was about 1870 and by that time all the Native Americans were supposed to be in Oklahoma...so who could take on 100 travelers?...thanks again
